Long time songwriters Jim Henman and Robert Campbell are facilitating a 10 week online songwriting workshop (this will held over Zoom) for beginner to intermediate songwriters. 

March 23rd through June 8th (April 20th & May 18th OFF due to holiday weekends)

The course outline:

• No more than 12 participants
• Weekly sessions (10 total) of approx 2.5 to 3 hours starting @ 6 PM Atlantic Time
• Special Guest Mentors will be attending sessions to bring their expertise to the room, including:
  • Lynn Miles – aka ‘Doctor of Song’, Juno & 6 Cdn Folk Awards
  • Joel Plaskett – songwriter, performer, entrepreneur
  • Bill O’Hanlon – songwriter, author, speaker
  • Steven McClintock – songwriter, publisher, producer
  • Terra Spencer – Singer-songwriter, performer
  • David Henman – songwriter, April Wine
  • Lucy LeBlanc – songwriter, publisher, sync
  • Asif Illyas – writer, arranger, producer, MIR
  • Caprice Garvin – songwriter, poet, author
• Mentors will be working with participants, along with facilitators.
• Each session will have a mentor focussing on aspects of the songwriting craft. eg.: melody, metaphor, arrangement, hooks, catchy choruses, et al.
• Co-writing will be a partial focus of this course with breakout rooms for writing, collaborating & co-writing and facilitators and/or mentors will move between these rooms when they happen.
  Note: meeting outside of the weekly sessions will be encouraged!
• Email support from the facilitators.
• Each participant will have opportunity for text based in-depth analysis of one of their songs by facilitators.
• Post workshop live/online hybrid concert at The Pink Piano in Lower Sackville.

Weekly Meeting Schedule: 

• Brief introduction of guest mentor and weekly check-in since previous session.
• ~½ hour review and discussion around characteristics of the week’s theme song(s)
• ~1 hour breakout sessions for co-writing with 1 to 3 other participants (Facilitators will drop in to breakout rooms during this time)
• ~1 hour in main group to review & discuss/Q&A of the experiences & outcomes of breakout sessions

Costs

The total cost of the course will be $349 CDN. (approx. 245 USD)
