Hello
I’m sure you have been a tad busy since the CBC event, I know I have been!
This is a very late message of thanks and updates…
We have video from the night and we’ll be snipping some testimonials from that and sharing them up for folks to socialize with.
On a personal note, I can only say thank you VERY MUCH for once again stepping up for a cause. No doubt I will end up doing some other event in the future and may bother you again… it’s what I do apparently 🙂
But, honestly, your performances and dedication to the craft are exemplary. Thank you.
I can offer my time and services in return, anytime. Please don’t hesitate to reach out.
And maybe a show at the Pink Piano someday. I will continue to share your music and promote your works as best I can so please reach out if so inclined.
Brian Gifford, main volunteer organizer, sends along this update about the night. Hopefully you are all okay with this outcome. Further below he wrote on the cause and links to related stuff.

Hi Robert – I have some good quality copies of the Kitchen Party for the CBC posters left over (8.5″ by 11″) which Geoff Turnbull and I would like to mail to the performers as a small token of our thanks. Would you be willing to ask for their addresses so we could send them?
If you want a poster, just email Brian. HIS EMAIL IS:

FYI, after much discussion, the decision by the CBC Pensioners-NS regarding the use of the donations was as follows:
- to cover the food and drink of performers, which I believe people were informed of the night of the event (about $570 incl gratuity)
- to donate the remaining funds (about $370) to the Unison Fund:
The Unison Fund is a registered Canadian non-profit that provides counselling, emergency financial support and other resources for those in the Canadian music community who face personal or professional challenges due to hardship, illness, or economic difficulties.
At the CBC Pensioners-NS’ last meeting today about this campaign, they again expressed great appreciation for your role in making the Kitchen Party for the CBC such a success.

below is second note from Brian, the leader of the organizing team of volunteers, that shares a bit about the efforts you have contributed to…
Hi – Thanks very much to those of you who have helped in the campaign to save the CBC. Donna, Robert, Diane, Maggie, Cliff, Annette, Lisa, Pam, Linda, Sebastien and Tara, your work on this has been very inspiring. Many local musicians, comedians and poets have joined in. We’ve worked with CBC Pensioners-NS volunteers and a couple of national campaigns to mount a strong local campaign as part of a national movement of passionate CBC supporters. One of the national campaigns has reached millions of Canadians with social media messages about the value and importance of the CBC.
This is the last set of suggestions I’ll send to you about how you can help Save the CBC in the final days of this momentous election campaign. The CBC’s life is on the line – we must protect and strengthen it. Although the polls show we have reason to be optimistic, anything can happen by election day so it’s important to remind people of the importance of saving and strengthening the CBC up to the day before election day. This is only one part of the federal election – but I think it will make a difference.
Here are some ideas:
- Take a look at some of the excellent local material from Strengthen the CBC in Nova Scotia to get inspired.
- this includes videos from the April 16 Kitchen Party for the CBC at the Carleton in Halifax, video testimonials from musicians, poets and other local artists, the Candidates’ responses to questions about the CBC, a petition you can circulate.
- You can watch the whole Kitchen Party for the CBC here. Click on Livestream Live. Slide the timer dot to the 1 hour and 5 minute mark. That’s when MC Costas Halavrezos begins the show.
- Either you or your family/friends living in ridings where the election is close in Nova Scotia can promote saving/ strengthening the CBC
- You or your friends could print the attached poster and ask shops to display it or put it up on public bulletin boards like in Libraries or put it up on telephone polls.
- You or your friends could share some of the excellent local material from Strengthen the CBC in Nova Scotia to your own personal FB page or other social media or on local FB networks used in the community you or they live in.
- see #1 above for examples
- It’s very helpful to add an introductory line like “Please Vote To Save the CBC in this election, if CBC is important to you. See the testimonial below”
- The 3 ridings where the vote is likely to be closest are:
- Cumberland-Colchester (from the NS-NB border to Truro and Tatamagouche). One of the national campaigns will target this riding with social media ads about the CBC.
- Cape Breton-Canso-Antigonish (all of Cape Breton outside of Sydney-Glace Bay + Antigonish and some of Guysborough County)
- South Shore-St. Margaret’s (Hubbards to Barrington)
- Several other rural ridings and Sydney-Glace Bay could also be close so doing the same things in those ridings could also help.
- SO if you or people you know live in these ridings, please ask them to help.
Again – thank you. I hope and trust we will be celebrating our success on Monday along with millions of other Canadians.
Brian

I’m one of several Nova Scotia volunteers who organized the April 16 Kitchen Party for the CBC out of a deep love for the CBC and concern for its future. I also volunteer with a national campaign to Save the CBC.
